Empress Noor Jahan's brother Asif Khan laid the Garden in 1633 AD. Nishat has seven terraces with a beautiful central water course flowing right in the middle. These terraces rise dramatically off the mountains from the eastern part of the lake.

Shalimar Bagh ( Garden of Pleasure ) - It was planted by Mughal emperor Jehangir for Empress Noor Jahan in 1619 AD and later extended in 1727 A.D. by Shah Jahan. Shaded by magnificent Chinar trees, the Shalimar is a series of stone pavilions and flowing water with paint box bright flower beds. The Garden blooms with innumerable varieties of flowers in spring and autumn.

Later continue your drive to Pahalgam through the pine forest, the confluence of the streams flowing from the river Lidder & Sheshnag Lake which are famous for their scenic beauty.

Pahalgam ( Valley of Shepherds ) - It is a resort set in a pristine village lying next to the Lidder River. Once a humble shepherd's village with breathtaking views. DAY 02: LEH MONASTERIES

Morning visit important Monasteries of Leh - Pheyang Gompa, Spituk Monastery, Shanker Gompa, Leh Palace & Shanti Stupa.

Pheyang Gompa - Situated on the Leh - Srinagar road, it looks like a huge palace from afar, built by Tashi Namgyal in the later half of the 16th century A. D. It belongs to the Red Cap sect of Buddhist. It possesses excellent statue and Thangkas. Hundreds of icons of Buddha and other gods are kept on wooden shelves.

Spituk Monastery - Situated on Leh Srinagar highway, built on top of a small hill overlooking river Indus. Five hundred years old, this monastery has some prized Thangkas and huge statues of goddess kali, whose faces are unveiled once every year. This chamber also contains an ancient collection of masks.

Sankar Gompa - It is the only monastery built on valley level and the seat of the yellow sect of Buddhist. It has a formidable collection of miniature statues of pure gold and a number of wall paintings. This is a modern monastery with electricity, yet it is an ancient edifice which has a huge statue of eleven heads and 100 hands, a form of avalokiteshwara. Another statue of chanzeri with 1,000 eyes, 1,000 arms, and 1,000 legs is a gorgeous representation of Buddhist deity.

Leh Palace - Built in the late 16th century by Singay Namgiyal, the palace stands like a sentinel overlooking the town. Inside there are old wall paintings depicting the life of the Buddha. Leh Palace was occupied by the Ladakhi royal family until the 1830s before they were exiled to Stok. Today the palace is deserted and dilapidated. Shanti Stupa - Located on the hilltop at Changspa. Constructed by a Japanese Buddhist organization, known as 'The Japanese for World Peace'. The aim behind the construction of the stupa was to commemorate 2500 years of Buddhism and to promote World Peace. A magnificent white-domed structure offers spectacular views of the sunrise and sunset. The stupa looks best at night, when it is beautifully illuminated with glittering lights.

DAY 03: khardung - la pass

In the morning your journey starts towards Khardung-La Pass.

Khardung-La Pass - The highest (5602 M) motor-able pass & Gateway to Siachen Glacier. Enjoy the picturesque scenery of mountains on the way. In the North falls the Saser range with the Saser Kangri Peak (7670m), 100m above the Mount Everest Base camp. In the south, the Zanskar and Stok ranges dominate the horizon.

Later drive back to Leh. Afternoon will be at leisure, free for independent activities. Evening visit to a Ladadkhi family.

DAY 04: LEH MONASTERIES

Morning visit important Monasteries of Leh - Thiksey, Shey & Hemis.

Thiksey Monastery - It is the twelve storey monastery, consists of 8 temples and about 250 resident lamas. The chambers are full of statues, stupas, Thangkas, ancient swords and Tantric wall paintings.

Shey Palace & Monastery - It is the summer palace of the erstwhile rulers of Leh, surrounded by picturesque gardens. Built in 1620 A.D. The palace has the largest victory stupa, topped with pure gold. There is a spectacular double storey statue of Buddha Sayamunni in a sitting posture. Wrought of copper and brass, gilled with gold and silver and studded with precious gems, it leaves the senses breathless.

Hemis Monastery - Situated in a side ravine off the main Indus valley with colorful flags flutter on the four pillars in the courtyard against the backdrop of white walls and a blue sky. The monastery contains gold statue and stupas decorated with precious stones. It has a superb collection of Thangkas, including the largest which is exhibited once in twelve years.
